Caddie Call

course management, one shot at a time

Before the first tee

What are you hitting?

You are your own caddie. You and your partner play a fourball better-ball match against two opponents, 18 holes at Pretoria Country Club. Every fact is on the card: lie, wind, slope, pin, hazards, and where all four balls are. You build every shot yourself: club, swing, shape, curve and aim. On the green your putts (one to four) are drawn from your handicap's putting odds; from off the green the putter is still yours to choose. Each strike is sampled from your own pattern, mishits included. After the shot you see what the decision did to your side's chances of winning the hole, apart from the luck of the strike.

Numbers at PCC altitude

Carry and total from 400 simulated full swings each, driver off a tee and every other club off a flat fairway, no wind. The range covers 80% of strikes, mishits included. Width is the spread of finishing points left to right that holds two thirds of your shots.

The match: fourball better ball
First row is your partner, then the two opponents. Strokes: 90% of each course handicap, given off the lowest player in the match. The best net score on each side counts.

Today's match uses the same pins and wind for everyone with the same players, so you can compare results.
